The Frida Cinema

About The Frida Cinema

Now more than ever, we need support from our community of fellow film lovers.

The Frida Cinema, Orange County’s only 501(c)(3) non-profit art house cinema, has prided itself on providing a communal space for art enthusiasts, dreamers, creators and film lovers to come together and celebrate the beauty of cinema. This is the kind of escapism and connectedness the public demands now more than ever, when we are asked to stay home, self-isolate, and face this great uncertainty.

The pandemic has shut down movie theaters globally, and we hope to keep Orange County’s only non-profit art house cinema alive during this unprecedented moment in history. At this time, your participation in our promoted online events -- as well as membership and donations -- is more essential than ever. Your support ensures that we can keep on some staff through this crisis, planning and organizing events and virtual screenings at this time while continuing to plan for future events, both virtual and, as soon as is safe, back on our screens. We are screening various films online and scheduling events (stay tuned!) such as Trivia events and vlogs. The Frida Cinema strives to deliver our diverse programming in a virtual community, so that we can stay afloat, while also providing a space to continue our conversations about film, and remain connected during this time of social-distancing. In addition to looking toward the near and far future events for our community, we are also doing what we can to take care of our staff; though we have had to furlough some staff members, The Frida Cinema remains committed to paying their health insurance premiums and seeking creative ways to be able to bring them back on as soon as possible.

Our mission has always been to be a cultural center that enriches, connects, and educates our community through the art of cinema. Since going dark on March 14th, out of recognition that this was necessary to ensure the safety of our staff and our family of film-goers, The Frida Cinema staff have been striving to keep our mission alive by partnering with streaming platforms and developing new online programming so we can nourish our continued sense of community, providing our community with access to great films and a welcomed sense of belonging while in the safety and comfort of their own homes.

We are facing our darkest hour, but our dedication to our mission shines stronger than ever. Please join that mission by making a contribution today. All donations to The Frida Cinema - Orange County, CA’s only 501(c)(3) non-profit art house cinema - are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Tax ID 27-0950151
